"Alnylam Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company, develops therapeutics based on RNA interference (RNAi). Its lead RNAi therapeutic program includes ALN-RSV01, a phase II human clinical trial product for the treatment of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection. The company's therapeutic programs in pre-clinical development stage comprise ALN-PCS for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia- ALN-VSP for the treatment of liver cancer- and ALN-HTT for the treatment of Huntington's disease. It also has a range of discovery programs for RNAi therapeutics for the treatment of various diseases, including viral hemorrhagic fever that comprise the Ebola virus- progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy- pandemic flu- Parkinson's disease- and cystic fibrosis. It has strategic alliances with Medtronic, Inc.- Novartis Pharma AG- and Biogen Idec, Inc. for the development and commercialization of RNA interference system products. Alnylam Pharmaceuticals also has license agreements with biotechnology companies, which engage in developing RNAi therapeutic products- and research companies that commercialize RNAi reagents or services. In addition, the company has collaboration agreements with Medtronic, Inc. for the development of drug-device products for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases- Novartis Pharma AG to develop RNAi therapeutics for pandemic flu- University of Texas Southwestern to develop RNAi therapeutics targeting proprotein convertase subtilisn-kexin type 9- and Inex Pharmaceuticals Corporation for the discovery, development, and commercialization of lipid-based nanoparticle formulations for the delivery of RNAi therapeutics, as well as a joint venture with ISIS Pharmaceuticals, Inc. focused on the discovery, development, and commercialization of microRNA (miRNA) therapeutics. It also has an alliance with Kyowa Hakko Kogyo Co., Ltd. to develop and commercialize ALN-RSV01. The company was founded in 2002 and is based in Cambridge, Massachusetts."
