"Achillion Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company, engages in the discovery, development, and commercialization of treatments for infectious diseases. The company focuses on the development of antivirals for the treatment of HIV infection and chronic hepatitis C- and antibacterials for the treatment of serious hospital-based bacterial infections. Its lead drug candidate is elvucitabine, an antiviral in phase II clinical trials for the treatment of HIV infection. Achillion Pharmaceuticals is also developing late-stage preclinical candidates, such as ACH-1095, an NS4A antagonist for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C- and ACH-702 for the treatment of serious hospital-based bacterial infections. In addition, the company develops a series of inhibitors of HCV protease, which are in early preclinical assessment. It has research collaboration with Gilead Sciences, Inc. to develop and commercialize compounds for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C. The company was founded in 1998 and is based in New Haven, Connecticut."
