How we got Started

An application as complex and critical as the computerized TurnerTrends stock analysis system did not materialize overnight. Our patent-pending technology culminates over a decade of continuous development and refinement.

Mike Turner is the company’s founder and chief architect of the TurnerTrends investment theory. Mike is not a stock broker, nor is he a financial advisor. He is an engineer and successful software products/services entrepreneur of over 30 years.

Mike, like many investors, had depended upon financial managers, advisors and stock brokers to provide him advice on the best way to invest and grow his personal portfolio. Based on the advice of some of the top investment managers in the business, he saw only marginal returns in good years and significant losses in bad years.

Having retired from his software businesses, he turned his attention to his stock investments. He was tired of making single-digit returns and knew he could do better than his financial managers were doing.

He was driven to find a better investment methodology. He researched the guru’s of both technical and fundamental stock analysis methods. But, he could not find a single system that gave him the kind of results he wanted. Some relied too heavily on technical trends and some were too heavily based on stock fundamentals. He was convinced there was a better, smarter way to incorporate the analysis of the pricing trends of stocks coupled with an appropriate integration of stock fundamentals.

Applying his analytical skills, he began to develop a computerized modeling system that could execute his stock analysis methods and processes programmatically. This gave him the ability to look at hundreds of stocks in seconds. He and his staff of programmers and statistical analysts ran hundreds of simulated trades on thousands of stocks over decades of historical stock prices. His system showed promise even in the early testing phase, but soon began to show consistent and significant profits in all types of stocks in both bull and bear markets.

He fired his stock broker, his personal financial manager, and moved all his money out of mutual funds. He began investing in the market using his system and began generating incredible returns. His system was not only working, but working better than any other system he had followed or researched.

His next move was to find the best way to bring this system to other investors, who like himself, were tired of following the advice of financial managers or, worse yet, relying on mutual fund managers for their stock investments.

Mike is, by nature, a problem-solving engineer who thrives on building successful companies, so it was a natural progression to launch the TurnerTrends website, and offer his system to any/all investors who believed in his methodology and follow his trades. But, since Mike is not a licensed broker or financial advisor, the only way to offer his services to the public was in the form of general advice not tailored to an individual investor. His legal advisors also confirmed that Mike could publish his own, personal trades as an open diary to any/all who wanted to see what he was doing, without violating any securities laws. So, the TurnerTrends report was born.

In January 2002, he launched TurnerTrends. That first year was the last year of the bear market that had begun in 2000. The Dow fell to its lowest point in October, before the bear market finally ended. Yet, even with some of the worst market months to work with, the TurnerTrends portfolio gained 19.08%!
